Metallic Key Rings

I love this metallic key ring set from Amazon!! High quality rings in 6 metallic shades; black, gold, light gold, rose gold, chrome and silver.

SUPPLIES:

• Tooling Leather, 3-4oz
• Leather Alphabet Stamps
• Wooden Mallet
• Cutting Knife
• Cutting Mat
• 1″ Key Rings
• Heavy Duty Hole Punch
• Embroidery Floss and Needle
• Craft Paint
• Paint Daubers

Cut Leather Strips

Using a cutting mat and a craft knife, cut 6″ x 1/2″ strips of tooling leather. I used 3-4oz leather and found it on Amazon, it’s gorgeous.

Notch One End

Tape To Cover

Add painters tape on the right side of the leather to protect it from the paint.

Paint The Leather

I found it easiest to apply the paint to the leather with these foam daubers in a pouncing motion. One medium coat should do and they dry fairly quickly. Once dry carefully remove the painters tape.

Stamp The Leather

On top of a piece of scrap wood, stamp your guests initials. Three swift mallet hits will do the trick.

Hole Punch

Fold the leather strips in half and mark 1/2″ from the fold, then hole punch. After you do it a few times you’ll get used to the spacing and probably won’t have to even mark it.

Sew to Secure

The final step is to sew the leather strips closed around the key rings with embroidery floss. You don’t need a sharp needle for this since the hole is so large. Add embroidery floss and add three stitches on each side of the hole to secure and knot on the backside.

CRAFTERS TIP: After using my keychain for a bit the thread started to loosen, so I would add a dot of glue to the knots on the backside to ensure a long life!

Make As They RSVP

Tackling a large favor project like this can be overwhelming if you attempt to do it all at one time. A fun way to do a few here and there is to make them as the RSVPs come in!
