Fiskars DIY Tools

Today I’m using the Precision Needle-Nose Pliers (best pliers ever), the PowerCut Easy Action Snips which make cutting anything from cardstock to leather a breeze, and the Precision Wire Cutters that cut wire like butter. These three amazing tools have so many uses from weddings to home decor, but today they’re helping me turn wire and felt into custom couples to top your cake with!

SUPPLIES:

• Fiskars PowerCut Easy Action Snips
• Fiskars Precision Wire Cutter
• 20 Gauge Jewelry Wire
• Felt, Ribbon, Lace, or the like for small details

Bend That Wire

This project is all about wrapping and bending wire. We are carefully manipulating 20 gauge jewelry wire into unique people shapes. Start at the bottom and leave a 3-4″ tail to stick in the cake. Move around the pattern from there…

Wrapping and bending the wire to match the pattern, use your Fiskars Precision Needle-Nose Pliers to help you every step of the way. Use them to:

• Hold the wire while you bend it
• Carefully shape the wire
• As an edge to bend the wire against
• As a manipulating tool to flatten the wire

Wrap The End

Once you make it all the way around the shape, cut the end the same length, combine and wrap together to finish. Flatten with the pliers.

Brides Turn

Next, do the same thing for the bride. Or make another groom… whatever fits your couple!

Little Details

Add a little lace, netting, pearls or similar to add cute little details to your people. Preferably mimicking your wedding day look. Here I wrapped some netting and hot glued it around the brides head to look like a little bird cage veil. I wrapped lace around another bride and added a string of pearls to the neck of the other.

For the guys, I made a bow-tie, regular tie, and top hat. All cut with my Fiskars PowerCut Easy Action Snips that have an amazing sharp point and a terrific ability to control small cuts – perfect for this project! Attach with hot glue on both sides.
