Today we’re embracing the beach, and turning beautiful seashells into the most darling ring bearer “pillows” you’ve ever seen! Below I share how to create your own pattern for any seashell and how to easily hand-sew a simple little felt pillow to perfectly fit inside that seashell. This project can be completed in less than one hour, plus drying time for the glue. Any sewing skill level will do… so all DIY brides are welcome! Make one for both rings, or maybe one for each ring… and get excited to hear the ooohhs and aaahhhs of your guests as your ring bearer(s) carry these down the aisle!
Perfect For Your Beach Wedding
I’m obsessed with the beach to say the least, so I’m always thinking about fun new ideas for beach weddings. Whether your wedding is nautical, beach, ocean or island destination themed – this seashell ring bearer project is PERFECT for you!
SUPPLIES:
- Pretty Seashells
- Wool Felt
- E6000 Glue
- Quilt Batting
- Needle + Thread
- 1/8″ Ribbon
Make A Pattern
The first step is to cut a piece of felt to match the opening of your specific seashell. This will become your pillow pattern.
My felt is from the fabulous Benzie Design on Etsy… the colors I’ve used here are Linen, Swan and Blush.
Cut Your Pillow
Next, following your pattern, cut out felt for your pillow that is about 3/4″ – 1″ larger than your pattern. Then notch cut it up to the pattern edges, about 1/2″ apart.
Sew Your Pillow
Discard the pattern. Using a needle and thread, hand sew a simple stitch along the outside of the felt pillow. Then pull the thread to gather the edges inward and tie a knot to hold the new shape in place.
Add The Ribbon
Sew a piece of ribbon in the middle of your “pillow” to tie the rings on with.
Add The Batting
Batting or stuffing you can call it what you want. Add some inside your shell and inside the pillow… then push the pillow into the shell. Play with the fit by pressing and pulling the felt to fully fit the seashell.
Glue The Pillow In Place
Use E6000 glue to adhere the felt pillow to the seashell. Be liberal with the glue and make sure that all sides of the felt are touching a bit of glue. Then let dry for 24-48 hours… and you’ll have yourself the most beautiful little seashell ring bearer pillow! Yay!!
