Happy #DIYfriday lovelies! Not that there is ever any wine left over at the end of the night, but just in case there is – today’s DIY has you covered. Create your own custom marble mix, then shape + cut into the gemstone of your choice, that’s really all there is to it. But don’t let the look of beauties fool you, they are SUPER easy to make. Create special wine stoppers for all your bridesmaids or maybe invite them over for a night for everyone to meet and make their own stoppers together! Don’t forget to also gift them a bottle of wine to use these with!
SUPPLIES:
- Sculpey III Clay (easiest to use and shape)
- Cork Stoppers 1″ x 1.25″
- E6000 Glue (must!)
- Clay Tools
The colors of Sculpey III that I used are: White, Silver, Gold, Beige, Dusty Rose, Black, Elephant Gray, Teal Pearl, and Translucent! Once baked the translucent gives an awesome clear-ish marbling effect!
Make The Marble
Using a few complementary colors of clay, roll them in between your hands, smoosh together and then roll, twist, and twist some more to marble the clay. Be careful not to mix the clay so much that the colors blend together. The marbling effect really shows up once cut…
Cut Your Gem
Using a clay knife or something similar, simply start cutting “facets” into your blob of clay to look like an awesome gemstone!
X Marks The Spot
Cut a little X on the side of the clay that you will be gluing onto the cork. This gives a little air and space for the glue to hold onto.
Bake
The baking instructions for the Sculpey III is 15 minutes for every 1/4″ of clay, so mine ended up baking for 75 minutes, at 275˚. Bake on a sheet of parchment paper and open a window, it can get a bit stinky.
Glue
Glue each gemstone onto a cork and let dry overnight. E6000 glue is the only choice for this project. It’s the best glue for a crafter to have in their stash.
Save That Wine
Ugh. Aren’t these just adorable!?! I think they’d make the most fantastic (and cheap!) wedding favors for a vineyard or wine themed wedding!
