Happy Monday lovelies! Boy, do I have a fabulous week planned for you! This is going to be our first ever favor week, where I’ll be sharing a different DIY favor idea every day, that can be created as a wedding favor or holiday gift! First up, these gorgeous DIY Infused Olive Oil Favors. Don’t let their good looks fool you, they are super simple to make and will easily impress your wedding guests or those on your Christmas list. I will apologize in advance because you’re probably going to want to make all five projects I’m sharing this week.. and to that I’ll say happy crafting!
Wedding Or Holiday
These fabulous, handcrafted olive oils would make the most darling wedding favors or holiday gifts… so I’m sharing two label options with you. One that says “thank you for celebrating with us” and the other that says “happy holidays”!
SUPPLIES:
Olive Oil
5oz Glass Jars
Bottle Top Shrink Capsules
Large Chunk Spices (any flavors will do!)
Candy Thermometer
Measuring Spoons
Sauce Pan
Funnel
Sticker Paper
Scissors
Twine
Alcohol
Add The Spices
Add 1 heaping tablespoon of your spice(s) of choice into each 5oz glass jar. Here I’m using spices that are all in “large chunk” form, meaning not ground. Feel free to use any spice combinations you’d like! I was lucky enough to find these tasty “grinder” jars in Fiery Chile Fusion, Peppercorn Medley, Chipotle Chile Pepper, and Garlic Herb Sensation, and then I did an even combo of Shallots + Fennel; yum.
NOTE: It’s important that you use ONLY dried spices. Infusing olive oils with fresh ingredients like lemon, garlic or rosemary, opens the door for nasty bacteria to grow because of the water content in the fresh ingredients. Doing that would be fine for immediate home use, but not for gifts or favors.
Warm The Oil
Next, warm the olive oil to 180º F. This is not hot enough to bubble/boil, but it is hot enough to slightly burn your skin if it spills on you, so be careful. Remove the oil from the heat and pour batches into a smaller glass jar. I found it much easier to fill the favor jars using the smaller jar than the sauce pan, but your choice. The warming of the oil is what draws the flavor out of the dried spices!
Fill The Jars
Carefully fill each favor jar to the brim with oil. After it cools, the oil will shrink down a bit so filling them to the tip top is totally fine.
Let Them Cool
Add each lid and then let the oils cool down completely before moving to the next step. Be careful, the jars will be hot.
Clean With Alcohol
Since the oil is well, oily; give each favor jar a quick wipe with alcohol to remove any residue before adding the label and shrink band.
Shrink Wrap The Lids
These shrink capsules come in 6 different colors and will make your olive oil gifts look incredibly professional! They are SUPER easy to use, all you have to do is put them on top of each jar and evenly heat with an embossing gun. Only takes a few seconds per jar.
Print + Cut The Labels
Download our cute labels at the end of the post and print them onto 8.5″ x 11″ sticker paper. Cut each one out and then punch a hole in the flavor tag. I’ve shared tags for each of the flavors I’ve made here, but there are also blank tags for you to fill in your own spice flavors!
Label + Twine
Peel the backing off each sticker and adhere to each jar, then tie on it’s special flavor tag and voila! Super easy right?
A Week Ahead
For your wedding or for the holidays, feel free to make these up about a week before your event… to give the oil and spices some real time to fuse. You can keep these jars sealed for up to about 3 months, but I’m sure they’ll be used up quicker than that!
Any Flavor Will Do
These oils are wonderful to use in many different types of cooking from seasoning eggs in the morning to bread dipping with wine in the evening… so any flavor infusion will be fabulous. My favorite ended up being the shallots + fennel combo!
