I am thrilled to bring you the second edition of my DIY Mason Jar Cocktail Gifts, last year’s internet sensation with close to 1 million pins on Pinterest! Ball Canning fell in love with those adorable mini-cocktail gifts like everyone else and so they asked me to create more for you – only this time using the 24oz Ball Jar Mugs instead of the 16oz style… hence the XL title. Using larger mugs means there’s more room to party! It also means more options for drink combinations as we can fit loads of different sodas into these mugs and aren’t limited to using a skinny can. We all know the easy, basic soda + mixer drink recipes from my previous post so I’ve created 5 new ideas for you, my favorite being the French 77 of course. These jars make wonderful holiday gifts but they are terrific throughout the year as well, especially for bridal party or bachelorette party gifts! Don’t forget to share your versions of this project on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #somethingturquoisediy, as I’ll be re-sharing my favorites!
SUPPLIES:
24oz Ball Jar Mugs, Wide Mouth
Regular sized soda cans or drink mixers
Mini bottles of alcohol
Cute straws
Twine and tags
Scissors
The most important part is that you find soda cans (or other mixer beverages) to fit inside your mason jar mugs! Normal soda cans will fit in these mugs; plastic soda bottles will not! Here I’m using large 24oz Ball Jar mugs that have a 3″ wide mouth. I recommend going soda shopping with your mug in hand!
Assemble Your Gift Jars
Start with two pieces of twine (to make it nice and sturdy) and tie a double knot around the top of your jar.
Then make another knot but don’t pull it tight yet, insert your straw then tighten – it makes it easier to start the knot first.
Do the same thing and add your alcohol bottle but then finish with a double knot to secure.
Make yourself a cute tag and attach! I made these tags with my Cricut Explore.
Total Cost: around $15 each. The mason jar was $8, the straw/twine together was about $.50, the soda was $.50 and the bottles of alcohol ranged from $3 – $7.
Moscow Mule // Ginger Beer + Vodka
Tequila Sunrise // Grapefruit Soda + Tequila
Faux Mint Julep // Key Lime Soda + Rum
Gin + Lemonade
French 77 // Champagne + Elderflower Liquor
Jack + Coke
In last years post, I created a bit of a mini-soda bottle frenzy as many people simply couldn’t find the tiny cans of soda I used in the project. Well, here’s another one for you… look at this giant, 16oz can of coke the hubs found at our local liquor store! I have NEVER seen a can of coke this size before and it makes the large mason jar mug look tiny! I searched the internet for 20 minutes looking for a source to buy them and I couldn’t find anything. I did read that old school liquor stores carry them – and that’s exactly where he found it!
