A month or so ago, Michaels came out with this new little ‘leather’ crafting section that I’ve been dreaming about. I finally came up with the perfect project for it’s offerings – this super easy and absolutely darling, no-sew jewelry pouch – perfect for gifting your bridesmaids jewelry in! It’s also quick to make… it can be completed in well under an hour. So grab some leather and let’s get busy!
SUPPLIES:
Leather
Crop-A-Dile hole punch (easily cuts through leather!)
Scrapbooking Eyelets
thin ribbon
sharp scissors
bowl (ours is 7.5″ in diameter)
charm or bead
pen
The easiest way to cut a circle is to trace one. You can use any size you want, but the bowl we are using here is 7.5″ in diameter.
Cut out the circle you traced.
Set your hole punch depth using the Crop-a-Dile guide. We did 3/4″…but you can do whatever you want to fit your project.
Then punch all around your circle. We did about an inch apart… and make sure to have an odd amount of holes – it helps in the threading. We had 17.
The Crop-a-Dile is amazing and cuts through the leather like butter, but sometimes leaves the remnant cutout behind… go through and remove them.
Now you should have a perfect circle with a bunch of perfect holes.
Now using the other end of the Crop-a-Dile, set an eyelet in each hole. This protects the leather from wear and use – and adds color!
Setting eyelets is quick and easy with the Crop-a-Dile, but you can use any eyelet setter that you wish!
Now the fun part, threading your circle… thread each hole with a thin ribbon…
Once you are finished, you should end in the same hole – on the outside.
Now you can pull the ribbon tight to close the pouch!
This step is very important! Add a little personalized charm or bead onto both strands of ribbon…
Pull the pouch ribbon tight. Stretch around and over the gathered weaves of leather and hold tight.
Then tie a very tight knot around the charm.
Once removed, the ribbon will open to reveal…
..a beautiful jewelry pouch – that opens to the perfect circle! Trim the edges.
Aren’t they just darling!?!
To close the clutch – simply pull the ribbon tight and wrap it back around the folds of leather!
Add your bridesmaids jewelry and it’s like two gifts in one!
When the knot is tied once the pouch has been pulled tight – it then always folds perfectly back together!
Any bridesmaid would be lucky to receive this lovely handmade gift!
There are so many leathers to choose from… and many places to purchase. Obviously you know which one is our fav!
