I’ve been thinking about a unique way to collect wedding cards for a while now… and as I was wrapping a friends gift it hit me – why not use a gift bag! So without further ado, here is a fun and fresh new idea on a wedding gift card holder! This project in it’s entirety should take you no longer than an hour max (if that) – so even if it’s the week or night before your wedding, you can still make it happen…
SUPPLIES:
- large gift bag
- scrapbooking paper of your choice
- cutting mat
- craft (exacto) knife
- scissors
- ruler
- Glue Dots
- tassels and ribbon for embellishment

We are going to start by framing the ‘card slot’. The largest card you will receive from a guest will most likely be under 9″, so we are making a slot that is 9″ x 1″… with a 1″ boarder around the whole thing.
Cut your smallest ‘frame’ to 11″ x 3″. Then on the backside, mark off a 1″ boarder – this will give you the 9″ x 1″ – slot.
Using your craft knife against your ruler, carefully cut out your ‘slot’.
Then if you choose… cut one or two more colors to frame your first. Each about 1/2″ larger than the last.
Now put all your frames together – layer by layer – using your favorite scrapbooking adhesive; mine is Glue Dots.
Take your frame and place it onto your gift bag – then trace the opening.
Carefully cut out the slot in your gift bag. It doesn’t have to be perfect because it will be covered up with your frame, but it does need to be larger than the pencil line.
Next, adhere your frame over the slot in the gift bag, covering up the cut hole.
Then open the bag up, stand it on a surface and using your adhesive – seal the bag together at the top. Technically this will only be temporary – until you rip it open to get at all your special wedding cards!

Print out our design above onto cardstock or design and print your own! Cut into a tag shape (or any shape you’d like) and hole punch.
Thread the ‘cards’ tag and a few tassels onto a piece of ribbon and tie them onto the handle of your gift bag. You can use any embellishment you’d like… paper flowers, a scarf, maybe a lace bow… or even real flowers!
To make sure that the ‘cards’ tag sticks out all night long for your guests to see, add a little adhesive behind it and secure it in place against your gift bag.
That’s all there is to it! An inexpensive, unique and darling way to collect all your special wedding cards! We are totally obsessing and so will your guests!!!
