I’m completely obsessed with these champagne glasses!!! While planning this event…. I couldn’t find any glassware that I was satisfied with – so I was forced to make my own!
Just a little frost paint make these glasses ideal for the seaside…
SUPPLIES:
- Martha Stewart Crafts Frost Translucent Glass Paint in your choice of color
- Martha Stewart Crafts Foam Pouncer
- Glassware of your choice
- rubbing alcohol and a ziplock baggie
Using rubbing alcohol, thoroughly clean the area of your glassware that will be painted.
Working with a tapping motion, carefully apply thin layers of the frosted glass paint with a foam pouncer. Feel free to tape off areas of your glassware that you don’t want paint on.
When you use a foam pouncer to apply the paint, it leaves a bubbly texture behind which will give these glasses the texture of being etched. But to get the ‘bubbly’ look just right – wait until the paint has dried for about 10 minutes and go back with your pouncer (no extra paint needed) and re-pounce the entire painted area. It will greatly smooth out the bubbles!
For the tumbler, I used the same painting steps as above.
In between coats, you can easily save your pouncer and paint in a zip lock bag!
The champagne glasses required only 2 coats of paint, with an hour of dry time in between.
The water glasses required four thin coats of paint, with an hour of dry time in between.
/////////////// CURE YOUR PAINT ///////////////
Once cured, these glasses will withstand many washings – even in the dishwasher. There are two curing methods: 1. Air Dry for 21 days. 2. Oven Cure – place glasses in a cool oven, set the temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes, turn the oven off and let the glasses cool down inside the oven completely. The gradual warm and cool will carefully cure the paint and not harm the glass!
Cheers to such a beautiful project and such gorgeous friends!!!
