Favor Week

YAY! It’s #favorweek 2019, one of my favorite weeks of the entire year! It all started in 2015 when I realized that tons of readers were coming to the blog during the holidays to make our wedding favors as small holiday gifts. So now, each year we’ve been sharing awesome wedding/party favors that double as terrific handmade holiday gifts, and we make you a holiday version as well! We have five awesome projects in store for you this week to get your creative juices flowing!

Wedding or Holiday

These fabulous, handcrafted hand warmers would make the most darling wedding favors or holiday gifts… so I’m sharing two label options with you. One that says “to have and to hold in case you get cold” and the other that says “cold hands warm heart”. Download both for free at the end of the post!

SUPPLIES:

• 100% Cotton Flannel, washed and ironed
• Bulk Whole Flax Seeds
• Sewing Machine
• Pinking Shears
• Thread to match
• Scissors
• 8.5″ x 11″ Cardstock
• Twine or Ribbon

Cut

Cut your 100% cotton flannel fabric into 5″ squares, you’ll need two squares for each hand warmer.

Crafters Tip: you can use any type of fabric you want as long as it’s 100% cotton. From what I’ve learned, any other fabric, especially polyester or types with metallic threads, can melt in the microwave! Yeiks!

Sew

Using a 1/2″ seam allowance, sew around three sides of the squares, leaving one side open to fill with the flax seeds.

Fill

Fill each flannel pocket with 1/2 cup of whole flax seeds. Flax seeds are a better choice to fill these hand warmers with, compared to rice, for the following reasons:

• they smell better when heated
• the oil inside the seeds can hold heat longer than rice
• they can be reheated more times than rice

Sew Closed

Very carefully sew the flannel pocket closed. I found it easiest to just be careful and not use pins or clips, but you do what works for you.

Pinking Shears

Trim all around the hand warmer with pinking shears to finish. This prevents fraying and looks adorable at the same time.

Print + Cut

Visit the end of the post to download your choice of free tags. Print onto colored cardstock of your choice and then trim on the lines provided. Add a hole at the top for tying onto the hand warmers.

Tags

Tie the tags onto each hand warmer and you’re ready to gift!

Heat

Heat these hand warmers in the microwave for 30-60 seconds and enjoy their warmth!
