As a photographer, I love love LOVE when brides infuse their own style and creativity into their wedding day. I’ve had a few brides lately who have made the cutest macrame floral wraps for their bouquets like Julia featured here! So I put together a tutorial for an easy DIY version that you can follow to make your own. This macrame floral wrap is perfect for the modern, boho, or vintage bride. The best part is that you only need to know one simple knot for this project, it’s just tied over and over. Enjoy! – Arianna of Wind and Sky Photography
Start with a piece of thin twine or ribbon about 4x the width of your bouquet. This will leave plenty of room to tie the wrap around your bouquet. You can also tie one end of the twine in a loop and the other end around a bead or button to hook it together.
Cut 6 pieces of macrame cord 60 inches long, and loop them in half around your twine side by side. This will give you 12 strings. It’s easiest to then tape this base to a tabletop while you’re working. Optional: if you’d like a wider wrap, you can add pieces of macrame cord by twos.
Tie, Tie, Tie
Now we need to tie a lot of knots! To tie a square knot, cross the right cord over the middle two cords, then the left cord under the middle two cords and over the right cord. Pull the right cord under the middle cords and through the loop. Tighten, and then repeat with the left side. This one basic knot is all you will need to know!
Working with 4 strings at a time, tie square knots across the entire first row…
Keep Tying
Once you have 3 square knots in a row, move to the second row. This time, skip two cords before tying two square knots across. On the third row, skip two more cords and tie one square knot in the middle. This will give you a simple triangle pattern!
From here, you can get creative! For my floral wrap, I continued alternating the triangle pattern forwards and backwards for hourglass and diamond patterns. .. you can do the same or come up with your own unique pattern simply by continuing to tie more knots!

Bouquet Wraps & More
This floral wrap is so versatile! You can use it on your bouquet, or wrap it around a mason jar filled with florals for a unique centerpiece. You could make napkin rings, key chain favors, reception chair signs, and so much more using this same technique. Once you learn to square knot like a pro, it goes super fast, trust me, so… did someone say bridesmaid macrame party?!
