I love confetti. I love throwing it, putting it in cards, and amassing packets of it for no good reason, LOL. And if there’s anything I love about a wedding ceremony or an end of the night send off – it’s a confetti toss! However, SO many venues don’t allow confetti. I totally get it, it’s a mess, but that’s what vacuums are for. Some allow rose or flower petals with the caveat that you have to pick them all up, lame. But many are opening up their no-confetti rules to birdseed and eco-friendly or biodegradable confetti. Enter today’s project – handmade leaf confetti! Give yourself some time to punch beautiful little bits of gorgeous leaves to create arguably the best eco-friendly confetti you could find! We of course partnered with Fifty Flowers to bring you this project because shopping for the perfect greenery on their website was beyond easy and magically they arrived at our door, my kind of shopping!

Flowers, Delivered To Your Door

Now that I’m a mom, early mornings are a daily occurrence. However, I have absolutely no interest in getting up even earlier to drive downtown LA to the flower mart to buy my flowers. While that is an option for me, it might not be an option for you. So where can you get wholesale flowers? Easy, from FiftyFlowers.com and the best part is that they deliver them to your door. They will also help you with the ordering process, the rehydration process, and anything else you could possibly need help with; their customer service might be better than Nordstrom.

Leucadendron Greens

I was lucky enough to find this gorgeous mixed box of Leucadendron Leaves from FiftyFlowers.com. They arrived on my doorstep and as soon as I opened the box, I got to punching. Fresh, “green” (not dried) leaves work best for punching confetti. These leaves are absolutely PERFECT for this project! The leaves are sturdy but flexible and they can last beautifully for two weeks or more in water, giving you ample time to make lots of confetti.

Rehydration

Since FiftyFlowers is a farm to customer, wholesale flower company, it means that your flowers are shipped straight to you from the farm and they will arrive in large cardboard boxes…

  • Using hardware store buckets, fill them up 1/4 of the way with water, make sure they are clean to start with.
  • Carefully unbox and un-package your flowers, per the instructions from FiftyFlowers.
  • Each flower is different and their team can walk you through the prep for each flower if needed.
  • It is 100% normal for your flowers to look a bit tired and lifeless, they’ve been on a long journey to you.
  • Give each stem a fresh diagonal cut and place in the water to rehydrate for 4-12 hours.
  • Keep out of the heat and sun while rehydrating.

Punch

Using your favorite shape of hole punch, start punching confetti out of your Leucadendron leaves! You can punch about 15 times before needing to empty the hole punch holder. Keep punching leaf after leaf and before you know it you’ll have a bowl of custom leaf confetti.

Remember “green” (non-dry) leaves work best for making confetti!

Shapes

I used the circle, heart, star, and rectangle hand punches from Fiskars. These punches are super easy on your hands so punching hundreds of times is no big deal. I actually punched and watched TV so I had a nice relaxing time making all my leaf confetti, the hubs helped a bit too!

Let Them Dry

Punching green or “wet” leaves means your confetti will be a bit wet. However these Leucadendron greens dried beautifully, even retaining lots of their natural color. You can take weeks creating your custom leaf confetti and after a few days of drying, no one will know that the little bits had been punched at different times!
