Meet The Fabulous Ladies Who Run Something Turquoise!
My name is Jen and like a lot of other gals, I’m completely obsessed with weddings and always have been. Working within the wedding industry for over 12 years as a mobile hairdresser, being a self-proclaimed master crafter and an avid follower of wedding blogs – I felt a deep need to create my very own. So in 2011 Something Turquoise was born. My biggest excitement is celebrating the artisan that exists in every bride. This blog is my pride and joy, my wildest dreams come to life and my favorite place to be – I am so very thankful that you are here and I truly hope my work inspires you to hand-make something special for your wedding day.
I’m a wedding designer and planner extraordinaire, based in New York City and the Hudson Valley. I fell in love with weddings and the industry after planning my own nuptials in 2012 (featured here on ST), and I Love Love Events was born. I Love Love Events, is a boutique styling and planning firm specializing in creative events, each lovingly crafted for the individual couple. I contribute an article here on Something Turquoise every month focused on wedding decor or fashion. When I’m not planning or writing about weddings, I’m a mom to an adorable blonde baby boy, Oliver. You can often find me DIY-ing things around the house, curating my stylish wardrobe or traveling the globe and documenting it all on my lifestyle website, Lauren Koster Creative. If that isn’t enough, I also design handbags for The Sak. I love lipstick, shoes, glitter anything, my adorable black Vespa and, just like Jen, the color Turquoise.
Sometimes I do things a little differently, and I like it that way. Our tiny DIY brunch wedding was full of 260 handmade tissue paper tassels, homemade granola favors, chicken and waffles, bacon, and just 35 people. I was Something Turquoise’s second Bridal Blogger and you can find my super sweet wedding feature here. If I’m at home, I’m probably in my favorite sweatpants, and I’m a firm believer in the healing powers of cuddling with our rescue dog, Mona. I love cooking for fun, but I hate doing it out of necessity. Speaking of food, I have an extensive cookbook collection, but I could eat cookies everyday for the rest of my life. In addition to freelance writing and copywriting, I have my own website, Kendra Found It, where I share my minimalist fashion inspiration and all the crazy beauty, fashion, and decor deals I find.
I’m a Southern California native, wiener dog loving, crafty redheaded new(ish)lywed. I’ve got a big heart and a fiery temper. My happy place is my garage turned craft room which I lovingly refer to as “the cave”. I like to listen to a healthy mix of country music and gangster rap. As far as crafting goes, I’m a jack of all trades, master of none. If I can sew it, spray paint it, put vinyl on it or glitter it, I’m happy. I’m a lover of all things girly and unique. I joined the ST team after following (or in her words “stalking”) Jen on social media and finding out we lived in the same town! Working for Something Turquoise has been a dream come true and something I consider myself very lucky to be a part of. You can find my fully DIY-ed wedding featured on ST here. When I’m not crafting you can find me at a flea market, sipping craft beer, blogging at Not So Cli-Shea or watching an unhealthy amount of Friends.
I started working for Something Turquoise after I tried one of Jen’s DIYs and completely screwed it up, so I had to reach out to her as an SOS. I could probably leave my bio at that and it would be sufficient for you to know me on a deep and personal level, but I’ll throw in some other information for fun. I’m married to the most amazing human ever created; (I think it’s been scientifically proven), and we live in our dream home on 5 acres of land in Fairview, Texas and just a adopted two darling dogs, Huck and Finn. Adam is originally from Wisconsin, and he’s totally converted me into a Cheesehead (#gopackgo). I have an unhealthy obsession with weenie dogs and llamas. (Like, if animals could file restraining orders, I’d for sure have a few.) Outside of Something Turquoise, I’m crazy-passionate about Pure Barre – that and Target are my happy places. I love to sip wine and watch The Big Bang Theory or Modern Family in my downtime, and I used to love watching Pretty Little Liars until they abandoned me. Like a true southern gal, I love me some sweet tea and Jesus, and I give Him all the credit for leading me to a job that I love as much as this one!
I am a craft enthusiast that thrives on a new DIY. I started following Something Turquoise way before I was even married because I loved the tutorials. After being the 2018 Bridal Blogger, I came onto the team as the social media coordinator and now I’m also creating DIY tutorials! I was so inspired by Something Turquoise that I created my own blog called Hein & Dandy, founded on crafts, creative writing, inspired by adventure, and wellness. I’m fueled by fitness and sunshine. I teach group fitness and love seeing people transformed physically and spiritually. If it involves the lake, I’m in! Rollerblading around them or paddle boarding in them, the lake is my happy place. Minnesota born and raised but am always looking for a new state or country to explore. People have described me as “cute but weird”, which I’m going to take as a compliment. I am not afraid to sing and dance my grocery list while walking down the isles of Trader Joe’s, Jessica Day would be proud.
