The something blue tradition is very near and dear to my heart because what once was my something blue (that wasn’t blue, it was turquoise) was the inspiration for the name of this website that you’re on ~ Something Turquoise. There are many ways to choose your something blue; it could be sentimental, it could be fashion related, it could be something meant for one pair of eyes only or it could be part of your jewelry… like today’s project! This super sweet idea would be a darling detail to wear in your hair on your wedding day and any day after…
Find Your Shade
We’ve got all the blues covered, including your Something Turquoise of course! The only question is, what style and shade will you choose? I think the light blue rough aquamarine stones are my favorite!
Wire wrapping these darling little hair pins is super, super easy – no special beading skills required! Follow the steps below and get an up close look by watching the video.
Cut about 5″ of 26 gauge beading wire
Add your choice of pretty blue bead(s) to the center of the wire
Synch/twist the two ends of the wire together around the bead(s)
Place the wrapped wire on top of a hair pin
Wrap one end of the wire around the left side of the hair pin, and wrap the other end of the wire around the right side of the hair pin – so that both ends are wrapping different directions
Wrap each wire end 6-7 times around the hair pin
Trim excess wire and press cut ends inward with flat pliers
Twist the blue beads down tight to the hair pin
Place in your pretty wedding hair!
Something Blue Meaning
The color blue has long been associated with love, modesty, fidelity, purity and good luck. Before the late 19th century, blue was a very popular color for wedding gowns. The Virgin Mary is also most often dressed in blue. So if you’re partaking in this tradition… what will it represent to you?
