DIY Dip-Dyed Soap Savor Favors for Baby + Wedding Showers

Favors are definitely one of my favorite things to make for a party or special event. Currently, I’ve been crushing on this handmade beauty line called Unearth Malee, their soaps, lip balm, and lotions, are all fantastic. I’ve also recently been using these sisal soap savers, a new bag for each new bar of soap I use… and I thought, wow, these would make fantastic favors for a shower! So here you go… I’m dip-dying the sisal soap savers, to make them extra special and I’ve even designed a super cute, FULLY EDITABLE favor tag that you can purchase from our shop and edit using Corjil. These would make terrific favors for your next wedding or baby shower.

You can watch me make these on our Instagram REELS!

Soap As Favors

Soap is always a fun idea for a favor, especially for showers, since the from my shower to yours is such a cute saying. Full size handmade soaps as favors can add up, so I’d recommend looking for smaller bars, even “favor” size bars or reaching out to the maker for a custom favor size.

Dying Set-Up

To start I covered my tabletop with some wax paper. Then I have my glass bowl, my Rit Dye, and a baking sheet with a cookie rack on it that I only use for dying things, no food.

Rit Dye Formulas

I love starting my custom formulations with guidance from Rit Dye’s Color Formula page. All four of the shades I created I found from their guide. Sisal is a cotton fiber so I used the all-purpose formulas.

Using boiling water with salt and a little dish soap, I added just a little dye and mixed until I found the right shade. I tested the color by dipping a paper towel into the mix. You can always add more dye if it’s too light, if it’s too dark, add more boiling water.

Dip

I dipped the bags for about 10 seconds each, at an angle…

Print

I printed these tags on my Canon PIXMA TS9521C Crafting Printer, on cardstock from Paper Source. There are 8 tags per 8.5″ x 11″ sheet.

Cut

Cut out each tag along the line and punch a hole in the top. This is great to do while your bags dry!

Assemble

Since the bags already have a tie with a bead, I didn’t want to add any twine or ribbon so I sewed the tags onto the bags with clear thread.
